Douglas wins Best Large Business in the New Zealand International Business Awards
Douglas Pharmaceuticals has beaten seven other finalists to take out the coveted Best Large Business category at the New Zealand International Business Awards announced last night.
The New Zealand International Business Awards are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and are supported by Strategic Partner, ANZ New Zealand. They celebrate the success of New Zealand businesses on the world stage and recognise excellence and innovative practice.
Over the past 52 years, many of New Zealand’s most iconic companies have been celebrated at the awards. There are nine categories including Best Emerging Business, Best Maori Exporter, Best Medium Business, Excellence in Innovation, Excellence in Design, Best Large Business and overall Supreme Award for International business (which was won by the NZ Merino Company).
Managing Director of Douglas Pharmaceuticals, Jeff Douglas, says the win is a reflection of the excellent work being done by his team of nearly 800 people who are spread over sites in USA, Fiji and New Zealand. He says the company is investing heavily in R&D and is fully focused on developing medications that will improve people’s lives not just in New Zealand but around the world.
The convenor of judges, David Downs, says “The New Zealand International Business Awards are very demanding – entrants have to complete a detailed application, then face a judging panel where they each have 20 minutes to explain why their business should be recognised”.
“What we found is that our export community really understands that, to succeed internationally, you have to be able to explain why your product or service is right for your customers. It’s not enough to simply rely on the quality of your product, you have to tell its story, you have to connect with your customers and show them you understand their needs and how you can help them.”
